Aesthetic Trends and Technologies:

By Raluca Minea
Owner, Face Focus Medi-Spa

The unique combination of pampering and visible results can only exist in one place…the Medical Spa, also know as the Medi-Spa. Until recently, Western Medicine has failed to recognize the healing benefits of the Spa and Fitness industry. With the arrival of the latest trend, the Medi-Spa, these two fields have converged and caused a veritable explosion, making this new trend the wave of the future.

Face Focus, a Medi-Spa in New Jersey, aims to bridge the gap between the salon and the surgeon by blending the comforts of a soothing day spa with a state-of-the-art clinical environment. The goal of Face Focus is to take you through a journey of rejuvenation, focusing on your self-improvement and well being, providing in the process, a unique, indulgent, and encompassing experience. Face Focus is committed to offering a wide array of services, with state-of-the-art skin care technology and the convenience of in-house medical procedures. In the Face Focus Medical Skin Spa, skilled licensed therapists work in close association with Dr. Steve Fallek, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, using the latest in Medical Aesthetic equipment. Face Focus welcomes their guests into a unique, indulgent, and encompassing experience of relaxation and beauty which is always on the fresh, leading edge of the industry. A complimentary skin consultation is welcome with Maria Minea, a renowned cosmetologist licensed in both New York and New Jersey, with over 20 years of experience acquired in Europe and in the U.S.

Face Focus offers a variety of aesthetic and medical treatments.

Some of our signature aesthetic facial treatments include the following:
Champagne and Caviar (facial)
Focusing on Him (facial)
“Let’s Do Lunch” Facial
Collagen Stimulation

Additionally, the peels used in conjunction with the facials include: Papaya/Pumpkin Peel; Blueberry Smoothie; Vitamin C; Purity Peel.

Other service categories include: Medical Facial Rejuvenation; IPL Photorejuvenation; Healing Massage; Laser Hair Removal; Wax Hair Removal; Permanent Cosmetics.

The most commonly requested procedures here at Face Focus are a blend of the more medical approaches to skin care (microdermabrasion, IPL laser rejuvenation, customized peels) combined with a relaxing, traditional holistic service (the Face Focus European deep-cleansing facial or reflexology.) Our clients want to benefit from our medical approach to skin improvement, but they also expect to be pampered in the process.

Here at Face Focus, we are continuously searching for new skin care treatments. We are always bringing in the latest technology available to our clients, in our common quest to postpone the necessity for plastic surgery and continue to deliver wonderful results!

SKIN DEEP
IF YOU THOUGHT RESULTS-ORIENTED SKIN CARE AND SERIOUS PAMPERING WERE EXCULSIVE, RUN—DON'T WALK—TO YOUR NEAREST MEDI-SPA

If you adore the luxurious environment of a day spa, yet need skin treatments that pack a prescription-only punch, you may want to check out your local MediSpa. A unique hybrid of a dermatologist’s office and a relaxing, spa-like sanctuary, MediSpas offer medical-grade skin treatments—think chemical peels, Botox and laser resurfacing —administered by medical professionals in a spa-like setting. “Until recently, Western Medicine has failed to recognize the healing benefits of the spa industry. With the arrival of the Medical Spa, the two fields have converged, making this new trend the wave of the skincare future,” says Raluca Minea, the owner of Face-Focus, a MediSpa in Englewood Cliffs,
New Jersey.

While a MediSpa is both similar to a different from both a doctor’s office and a traditional spa, it provides the best of both worlds when it comes to treating and caring for the skin. While most people go to a dermatologist office to treat a specific problem or for a yearly skin evaluation, a MediSpa’s services are more oriented towards cosmetic dermatology and maintenance of the skin’s appearance. At the same time, the skin treatments at a traditional spa focus mainly on relaxation, as opposed to permanent skin health results. Spa facials are usually effective in cleansing the skin, but results tend to be temporary, says Kathy Dwyer, CEO and founder of SkinKlinic, a MediSpa in New York City. “Techniques such as extraction and massage stimulate the skin, giving a glow effect, but essentially do not address the long-term health of the skin,” she says. At MediSpas, however, the focus is almost always on serious skin health; most MediSpas are under the direction of a doctor, and all employ registered nurses to administer the medical-grade treatments. However, unlike a doctor’s office, those treatments are delivered in a relaxing, pleasant setting. In offering such treatments outside of a clinical setting, MediSpas provide consumers not only with a cushier environment, but also with more convenience. “At a dermatologist’s office, there is no guarantee of how long the waiting time is, which is inconvenient if you lead a busy lifestyle,” says Dwyer, noting that MediSpas operate like day spas in terms of booking and honoring appointment times. Unlike day spas, however, because those administering treatments are registered nurses and not estheticians, tipping is not expected.

MediSpas offer a wide range of treatment options to improve skin’s appearance, tone and texture. Intense Pulsed Light Photorejuvenation (IPL) laser treatments are used to for acne reduction, spot and blemish removal. “IPL treatments are a very effective method for reversing sun damage, rosacea and age spots; they truly take years off skin,” says Valerie Herndon, owner of Inaara Med Spa in Shrewsbury, NJ.  Also commonly available are injectable fillers like Restylane and Collagen and wrinkle releasers such as Botox. “These are the ‘instant gratification’ treatments,” Herndon says, as they provide immediate results. Additionally, skin brightening and anti-aging treatments such as medical-grade chemical peels and microdermabrasion are usually available at MediSpas. Many also offer laser hair removal. “We do a great deal of laser hair removal leading up to summer; it’s a very popular treatment,” notes Herndon. “In fact, I'd say that laser hair removal treatments and Botox treatments are running neck and neck for our most popular services.”

There are numerous new treatments poised to be popular in the future at MediSpas, notes Dwyer. Sculptra, a lactic acid filler injected into the skin, will soon be as commonplace as collagen for restoring fullness to deep hollows in the skin, particularly in the areas around the mouth, cheeks and jaw line. At SkinKlinic, lipotherapy, a form of cellulite-reducing mesotherapy, is already proving to be very popular, especially with summer on the horizon, Dwyer says: “Lipotherapy is used for areas of the body where the fat just won't shift through either diet or exercise, like the hip, thighs, stomach and arms,” she explains. With lioptherapy, multiple injections of a treated chemical solution derived from either soy or plant extract are administered underneath the skin in fatty tissue. This causes fat cells to release the fat content and eliminate the fat through a natural process. Within four to six, treatments, most clients see a visible difference, says Dwyer. So that clients can achieve results both through in-office treatments and an at-home regimen, some MediSpas feature their own line of products or stock those created by doctors.

As MediSpas are a relatively new option for skin care and treatment, it’s recommended that you look for certain criteria and perhaps even pay the MediSpa a visit before deciding to receive treatment there. “When choosing a MediSpa, look for one with a clean, medical environment, a well-trained, experienced staff and, and—absolute must —an MD affiliation,” says Minea. She also notes that while the MediSpa should look luxurious and inviting, the staff should be thoroughly trained and display seriousness when administering medical procedures like chemical peels and laser treatments.”

While MediSpas aren’t the appropriate stops for an “Is this mole dangerous?” query or a face-lift consultation, they are revolutionizing the world of cosmetic dermatology. Asks Dr. Barry J. Cohen, creator of skincare line phAdhantage and founder of Papillion MediSpa, “When receiving treatments, would you rather sit in a sterile doctor's office or in a lovely, tranquil environment? For most people, it’s an easy choice.” Perhaps MediSpas are just what the doctor —and patient — ordered.

Factio Magazine:

Face-Focus focuses on Personalized Treatment

Pure bliss. When the words “ Champagne and Caviar Facial” come to mind, one would normally sigh a collective gasp, “Ahhhhhhhhh.” Well, when stepping into Face-Focus, a European Medical Spa in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, there’s so much more than Ah. Make that, “Ooh and ahh and yes, pure bliss.”

Sure, facials are rejuvenating but there is something special and uniquely relaxing in this medi-spa with European roots. In the Face Focus Medical Skin Spa, skilled licensed therapists work in close association with Dr. Steve Fallek, a board-certified plastic surgeon. Using the latest in Medical Aesthetic equipment, Face Focus welcomes guests into an indulgent and encompassing experience of relaxation and beauty that is always on the fresh, leading edge of the industry.

You see, they specialize treatment based on each guests’ needs. So, imagine my delight when the caviar treatment was geared towards my “is winter over yet, check out my dry skin” phase. Whether it was the soothing music or three-step treatment along with mini-massage, escaping New York City siren sounds for the northern Jersey spa oasis was well worth the trip.

While services range from the decadent champagne and caviar facial to the “let’s do lunch” facial to treatments just for men (because they need that special glow, too), services are always customized for customers. “We focus on excellent skin care under the roof of a doctor,” explains Raluca Minea, co-owner of Face Focus.

In fact, a complimentary skin consultation is welcome with Maria Minea, a renowned cosmetologist licensed in both New York and New Jersey, with over 20 years of experience in Europe and the US. Maria explains, “Home care is important as well. How well you treat your skin at home is just as important as what you have done here.”

True, indeed. For over sixty minutes of bliss, though, the caviar treatment is fabulous and results in radiance you’ll exude without even trying.

Beauty News NYC.com:

Dermatologists’ Dish on Semi-Quick Fixes

During my stint as skin care editor, I’ve experienced many different ailments. When you live and breathe beauty you begin to see flaws that don’t exist simply because you know there are solutions. When you anticipate an important event like a wedding, you begin to scrutinize every imperfection. No matter whom you’re marrying or where the ceremony will take place you want radiant skin. To celebrate all the future brides we’ve developed a simple yet comprehensive guide to skin care, with realistic attitudes and expert advice.

The doctors we spoke to represent opinions from each end of the spectrum, but they all agree everyone should visit a dermatologist before taking action and preparation should begin at least two months before the wedding. If you’re one of the many New Yorkers who crosses the street carefully because you’ve no health insurance, fear not. The Medi-Spa phenomenon ensures that anyone with credit or disposable cash can turn their skin around; Instead of visiting an internist and waiting for a referral, you can visit a dermatologist at a spa just by making an appointment.

Eliminating and Preventing Acne
People experience acne in cycles but a common mistake is treating acne like weight management; we often react rather than acting to prevent outbreaks. At a recent meeting, Jan Marini touted Benzoyl Peroxide as one of the best anti-bacterial substances created to date. Since it functions by killing bacteria, she informed that it can be applied over other products to prevent acne.

The skin care community has been advocating the use of lasers for acne and scar treatment but many over-the-counter (OTC) chemicals treat and prevent acne when used regularly. For mild acne, try the Neutrogena Advanced Solutions Complete Acne Therapy System, a three-part system that involves a cleanser with .5 percent Salicylic Acid and Glycolic Acid; an overnight lotion with 2.5 percent Benzoyl Peroxide, and an oil-free, glycerin-based moisturizer with physical and chemical sunscreen and cinnamon extract, a natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. For effective but mild exfoliation, opt for treatments that utilize fruit-derived acids like Face Focus’ papaya and pumpkin peel. Face Focus offers a variety of facials that exfoliate and promote cell regeneration but their Blueberry Smoothie peel lured us immediately. Raluca Minea, one of Face Focus’ licensed aestheticians, often performs the exfoliating acne treatment, which utilizes physical exfoliants like beads as well as blueberry extract and chemical exfoliants like Lactic Acid.

For medium acne, I’d recommend a glycolic-based regimen. Dr. Francesca Fusco, a Manhattan-based dermatologist and a member of the AAD and the American Chemical Society is “a big advocate of chemical exfoliation—both in the office and at home. ”Though it’s difficult to pinpoint which products are successful she goes with the tried and true ingredients and well respected brands when asked to recommend a regimen for clear smooth skin, “If I had to generalize, a product with AHA (glycolic and lactic are both AHAs) or retinol could be a good choice as these exfoliate and diminish fine lines.” In addition, Fusco also instructs patients to look for non-comedogenic products because oil-free products aren’t necessarily safe for acne-prone skin.

Fusco conducts seasonal chemical peels on most patients and recommends maintenance at home with products like the Patricia Wexler Glyco-Peel System, a treatment that uses a pad soaked in 10 percent glycolic acid solution. A lesser-known drugstore brand, Aqua Glycolic, makes a shampoo/body cleanser with 14 percent glycolic acid at a pH of 4.4 to keep the scalp healthy and the body smooth. All products have at least 10 percent glycolic acid. The face cream also has hyaluronic acid; it lessens sun damages and helps promote cell turnover and collagen production. Fusco herself keeps it simple; she uses Suave Natural Oatmeal Moisturizer on her face because she has sensitive skin. To keep the rest of your body soft and clear, she recommends keeping a bottle of Suave body lotion by the shower and slathering it on while the skin is still damp. “For smooth body skin, look for ingredients like glycerin (Suave increased the percentage in most of their moisturizers), lanolin, and dimethicone.”

Those with severe acne should have a dermatologist they trust on speed dial and a multi-step treatment that’s strong enough to combat overactive sebaceous glands and easy to maintain for the long term. Jan Marini has treated countless teenagers and adults through a multi step system that often involves her glycolic cleanser and her wonder item, Bioclear Lotion. Since Bioclear contains Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, and Azelaic Acid, it destroys bacteria, breaks down acne lesions, and resurfaces skin thereby easing hyper-pigmentation.

Clearing and Tightening Skin
Women that don’t have acne often complain their skin is dull and sensitive or that gravity has taken its toll. To achieve a dewy complexion and taut skin, moisturizing and collagen-producing treatments are imperative. Sephora’s new line Cosmedicine is a reasonably priced line that offers everything from serums and healing cream to tinted moisturizer and body cream. Consultants from Johns Hopkins affirmed clinical studies that showed the MegaDose serum offered 63 percent protection from free radicals. For young brides, the prep stops here. Dr. Steve Fallek, a board certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon cautions women in their 20s from going overboard. However, older brides can benefit from many non-surgical procedures that fix imperfections like “fine lines, drooping lids, or brown spots.” “The key is achieving the optimal result without significant downtime. Full laser treatments, chemical peels, or dermabrasion may lead to prolonged redness,” says Fallek. “My aestheticians and I use IPL (intense pulse light) treatments, microdermabrasion, light peels, Botox, and fillers such as Restylane.”

Every doctor has a different approach. Fallek and Fusco both agree brides with more damage should begin treatments two to three months before the wedding but Dr. Fusco prefers to treat droopy skin with Thermage. “For dull droopy skin I recommend Thermage (Thermacool). Radiowave frequency energy heats the collagen and tightens it. Results are not immediate, and take up to three months. There is minimal redness, swelling, and no crusting or scabbing. One can actually go back to work the same day.” Thermage falls in the same category as a newer technology, one exhibited through the Cutera Titan, a machine that emits infrared light and causes collagen contractions. Though many machines are created for facial treatments, the Titan can be used all over the body, even on the stomach.

an imagean image

You may not think the current laser treatments are worth the price of a Fendi bag, but there’s a new machine in town that might just lure you. Rhytec’s Portrait Plasma treatment is a non-invasive way to treat sun damage and boost collagen production with little downtime. Dr. Paul J. Frank, a board certified dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon, was the first in Manhattan to get this machine. Used primarily to treat sun spots, fine lines and scars, Dr. Frank believes this is the best resurfacing treatment available today because it provides the benefits of laser treatments with a more localized delivery and less down time.

“This is activated nitrogen—in layman’s terms it’s electrocuted nitrogen,” says Frank. “It’s a form of skin resurfacing which gets rid of pigmentation, fine lines and scars. The machine delivers heat, takes away all the skin with wrinkles, and reveals new skin. Damaged skin sits there until a new under layer is grown.” A number of doctors across the country conducted studies using the Portrait Plasma treatment and yielded positive results, as noted in a clinical roundtable printed in the Aesthetic Buyers Guide (www.miinews.com). Most noted that within a few weeks a new layer of skin resurfaced, removing brown spots and decreasing the depth of lines and wrinkles; the treatment also stimulates a healing process which some say explains why collagen and elastin production ensues without a level of heat that caused charring with other treatments.

The process requires just one treatment at optimum power but if you can’t handle one week with pseudo sunburn, you can opt for three treatments. Dr. Frank has so much confidence in technology-driven treatments and the skin’s ability to heal that he seems to shun anti-aging products and quinones, sometimes referred to as bleaching agents. If you can handle looking sun burnt for a week and you can come up with $3500, this may be the best gift a mother of the bride could ever receive. Not only does this produce results on the face but doctors have recently begun using it on hands and décolleté as well.

If you’re wary machines, it’s time to invest in a cult skin care brand. Obagi will likely reach the fame in coming years that brands like La Prairie and La Mer did in the past. Created by Dr. Obagi, a board-certified member of the American Board of Dermatology and American Academy of Dermatology, the line’s claim to fame is the combination of vitamin C and prescription-strength hydroquinone, four percent (the FDA OTC limit is two percent). The Obagi-C? Rx System is a five-product regimen with vitamins E and C, and four percent hydroquinone. They also offer four vitamin C serums in increments of five percent up to 20. The Obagi Nu-Derm? System offers products with four percent hydroquinone and tretinoin (05 and .1 percent), a retinoid.

Dr Fallek advocates the usage of hydroquinone but recommends starting with a two percent solution. Dr. Fusco also supports the usage of hydroquinone and laser treatments to diminish liver spots, “Depending on how dark the spots are a prescription strength hydroquinone (4 percent) or a new product, Solage, can be highly effective for those who don’t want laser. But, laser or chemical peels could absolutely be done three months before the wedding but as always, go to a dermatologist.”

Removing Unwanted Hair and Calming Excessive Sweating
Everyone is always talking about laser hair removal (LHR); some say it’s permanent, others say it’s semi-permanent. Whatever your belief, it’ll take at least three sessions to remove a significant amount of hair, which is why this requires planning at least three months ahead of time.

Everyone agrees fair skinned patients with dark hair have it easy because there are many lasers that work. Dr. Fallek uses IPL for ideal LHR candidates but cautions that few lasers can perform well on darker skin or blond hair, without side effects. “Darker skin points need a different laser to prevent scattering and scarring.” Dr. William Greenberg of Skin TheraP Medi-Spa claims to have the technology to perform LHR on all skin and hair hues, even blondes, historically the toughest patient. He uses a machine equipped with ELOS (electro-optical-synergy) that detects hair via texture not color.

If you don’t have the capital or the time to get LHR opt for threading. Threading offers more control over shape than waxing and with all the Indian neighborhoods in Manhattan and Queens you’re sure to get a good deal. Praba is Spanish Harlem even offers back threading for men starting around $40.

For most brides we’ve covered all the important topics but there’s one group we’ve left out. For this group, even men’s deodorant won’t suffice and their dreaded moment is finding out how much it’ll cost to remove the yellow sweat stains from their silk organza dress! Well, Dr. Fallek assures us that in the confines of his office, he treats just as many brides with Botox for excessive sweating than he does for wrinkles, and he’s getting rave reviews from satisfied clients. “Botox should be a one time treatment for both underarms. It takes about 10-12 injections per side and I use an acupuncture needle and topical Lidocaine to minimize any pain. I tell patients treatment is about twice a year.”

Now that we know everything there is to know about wedding skin care solutions, there’s no reason to complain or worry about your appearance. We are lucky enough to live in an area with a huge concentration of experienced doctors, all of who can alleviate one big pre-wedding stressor. Just remember, the goal of every bride should be to look like you at your best. Keep in mind you should be as comfortable with your dermatologist as you are with your hairdresser, your OBGYN or your shrink. This holds true especially if you are contemplating surgery, in which case professionals like Dr. Fallek are happy to advice on cosmetic surgery at least six to nine months before the big day. When you start to get jitters keep in mind an America without Hollywood would probably show a better success rate. In an ideal world, marriage should always be about a union of minds, not just a fusion of bank accounts, apartments, and black books. Age and looks should be minor issues, but we appreciate that having clear skin can drastically change one’s self esteem. If a little zapping is what it takes to ensure a weekend and hopefully the start of a lifetime of happiness we’re all for it.

Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams

Indulge Yourself with the Ultimate Celebrity Facial at Face Focus…

By Raluca Minea
Owner, Face Focus Medi-Spa
Celebrities are known for their extravagant pampering before hitting the red carpet. To get “red carpet ready,” celebrities often expect the most luxurious and over-the-top body and skin care treatments; and this year at the Oscars it was the caviar facial. This indulgent treatment is based on protein-rich Caviar—known to deeply nourish the skin, improve cell metabolism, increase firming action and provide essential antioxidant protection—and a high concentration of pearl extract. The Caviar facial also provides anti-aging properties, with its unique combination of antioxidants and AHA’s, which will leave your skin soft and supple with a radiant glow.

The Champagne and Caviar facial—available at Face Focus medical spa, located in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, is a rich hydrating treatment that combines a mini enzyme peel with moisturizing caviar mask to produce truly glowing, radiant skin. The Caviar Facial incorporates various massage techniques that help detoxify and penetrate the ingredients into the skin. Some of these techniques include effleurage, pressure-point technique and lymphatic drainage. Indulge in cleansing, toning and gentle exfoliation, followed by a luxurious face, neck and décolleté massage with a protein-rich Caviar mask.

This facial is a three-phase process, beginning with the exfoliation stage, in which the client undergoes a 10-minute massage with an enzyme peel. The enzyme peel helps exfoliate the outer layer of the skin by gently removing the impurities and polishing the skin to brighten and soften the complexion, while creating the optimum skin condition for deep penetration of the nourishing ingredients of the Caviar Facial.

Once the dead skin cells have been removed, the skin is prepared to absorb the contents in phase two, the 30-minute pleasantly aromatic caviar extract massage. This is the most relaxing part of the whole experience, as I use gentle strokes to work the caviar extract into the skin. In addition to its soothing properties, this part of the process also uses lymphatic draining to flush toxins and relax your mind and body. Another massage technique used in this treatment is effleurage, or stroking, which uses light and deep methods. Light stroking is designed primarily to be a sedative. Deep stroking is a therapeutic compression of soft tissue, which encourages further lymphatic drainage.

spa: Young woman resting head on arms, eyes closed, close-up stock photos

During the third and final stage of the Caviar Facial, I apply a hydrating caviar mask, which can be left on overnight, if desired, for maximum penetration. This treatment uses the sea’s riches to soothe, repair, and moisturize damaged skin or skin that is sensitized by excessive dryness. Saturated with the valuable nutrients of caviar, pearl extract, hyaluronic acid and alginates, the skin is rebuilt, repaired and robust. It regains incomparable elasticity, suppleness, and comfort.

Although the Champagne and Caviar facial is particularly effective on mature skin, it is suitable for all skin types, excluding the acneic, very oily skin clients. It is mostly recommended as a boost in hydration for everyone interested in having a plump, glowing complexion for a particular event, since its effects last for 4-5 days. To top off your experience at Face Focus, each client will receive a glass of champagne upon his or her arrival. The lavish $125 Champagne and Caviar Facial is a full hour of pampering and is ideal for achieving a radiant glow!

bride: portrait of a bride smiling stock photosLook and Feel Like a Goddess On Your Wedding Day With Expert Beauty Advice for the Blushing Bride-to-Be

From the minute a bride-to-be says “yes” to a marriage proposal she is catapulted into high pressure wedding planning. As if managing an extensive guest list, selecting the perfect invitations, venue, band, cuisine, dress and flowers aren‚t enough to give you anxiety; the bride-to-be is then faced with the overwhelming pressure to look flawless on the most important day of her life! With so many details to obsess over when planning a wedding, it’s easy for the bride-to-be to put her vanity on the back burner.

Bridal Beauty from the Experts
The country’s top experts in cosmetic enhancement treatments and procedures offer brides-to-be beauty advice with some of today’s most popular and effective procedures. Live easier and look flawless on your wedding day with the following beauty advice:

Remove Unwanted Hair: Leave post-waxing irritation and a razor at the airport and breeze through your wedding day and your honeymoon destination fuzz and stress free. “Laser hair removal is a safe and effective treatment when performed by the right hands under the guidance of a physician in an office where skin type has been properly evaluated,” explains Dr. Steve Fallek, NYC Plastic Surgeon. There are many different types of lasers for hair removal and all of them work effectively if the patient is a good candidate for the treatment. Laser hair removal is easy and highly effective once all of the 4-5 recommended treatment sessions are completed, which requires four to eight weeks between sessions for permanent hair reduction. Laser hair removal banishes body hair and the repetitive task of shaving or waxing for the busy bride-to-be.

Stay Cool and Dry with Botox for Hyperhidrosis: Sweat stains on a white wedding gown is most likely a bride‚s worst nightmare. There is no need to worry about staying cool and dry on the big day. Hyperhidrosis, or excessive perspiration, is a problem for millions of women. There is a safe and effective therapy for hyperhidrosis in the form of Botox injections into the armpits. Dr. Fallek explains: “These injections can render a person sweat free from six to eight months. The painless injections work by paralyzing or shutting off the sweat glands, so the mechanism that secretes sweat is literally shut down.” For women who have lived with an embarrassing sweat problem and costly dry cleaning bills, Botox is the most effective way to end hyperhidrosis before you reach the altar.

Shine with a Wedding Day Glow: The wedding day will live on in photographs for a lifetime; so don‚t get caught on camera with less-than-perfect skin! Raluca Minea, head aesthetician at Face Focus Medical Spa, recommends beginning microdermabrasion and light chemical peel treatments every two weeks as early as two months prior to the wedding. Raluca explains, “These treatments can help recover your shiny, taut facial skin, making it a perfect palate for makeup with no nasty nooks and crannies, and a more even skin tone with diminished lines and wrinkles.” It’s also important not to neglect areas of your upper body that will be exposed in your wedding dress, such as the neck, chest and back areas if your dress is low-cut. Peels also work wonders on spotty, rough skin. “I recommend getting peels from two months ahead up to the day before the wedding. It is also important to keep in mind that you must deal with any chronic skin problems early,” explains Raluca. If you are plagued with mild acne, for example, consider beginning regular acne facials with a skilled aesthetician on a regular basis as early as one year to six months before the wedding.

Flash a Picture Perfect Smile: A big bright smile is a universal expression of happiness. It’s no wonder that every bride wants a dazzling smile for her wedding photos, but a mouthful of glowing white caps and veneers loses some if its shine when the bill is tens of thousands of dollars. However, now there is a quick, painless alternative to veneers, Snap-On Smile, which instantly transforms old-looking teeth into a gorgeous smile at a fraction of the cost of other invasive, painful dental procedures and devices. Brides-to- be everywhere are turning to Snap-On Smile for a million dollar wedding day smile. Snap-On Smile is now available for brides-to-be at dental practices nationwide.

Be an Arch Angel: Style icons like Brooke Shields, Denise Richards and Demi Moore all have one thing in common- thick, pronounced eyebrows. From the runways in New York to the glossy pages of InStyle Weddings magazine, bold brows have made a huge comeback in 2006. And now there‚s the next big solution for those unhappy with their over plucked, skinny brows. BOSLEY, the world’s leading hair restoration experts, now offers eyebrow transplantation. Permanent hair loss in the brow area can be corrected permanently with follicular unit transplantation in a simple in office procedure where hair is taken from a “donor area” at the back or sides of the scalp and artistically placed in the eyebrow area with attention to shape, thickness and appropriate degree of the arch, so brides can be natural, arch angels on their big day.

Sparkle with Big, Bright Eyes: Mascara, eyelash curlers and even traditional fake eyelashes‚ have long been used to give eyes a brighter, bolder look. Now 3D-Lashes make eyes appear bigger and more natural. 3D-Lashes not only look natural, but they last up to two months or longer! Faces Plus Salon, a full-service salon and spa in New Jersey, is one of the first premier salon/spas to offer 3D-Lashes. David Ezra, Creative Director and Head Colorist for Faces Plus says, „3D-Lashes have become the number one requested pre-wedding day treatment for brides-to-be at Faces Plus Salon. The sophisticated female wants procedures that are simple, natural looking and easy to maintain. 3D-Lashes give brides a subtle yet highly effective way to brighten their eyes.
